One of the most scariest things EVER happened to me......yep, as the title states, I had a near death experience during our trip to the coast this weekend. I now am more appreciative for life, and for the simple things that I have everyday....
So there I was......
So there I was......
Joel and I had heard about this area that was practically a sand dollar gold mine...wanting to experience finding a whole sand dollar for ourselves, we went to this area on the coast after finding our 1000th geocache. The only catch was that you had to do it during low tide because it is the only time the beach is accessible.
To get where we had to go, we had to go through the opening between the rocks. The tide was very low, however, as seen in this picture, it can creep up and hit up against the rocks.
Bottom line is that a sneaker (stinker!) wave came while I was walking along the beach...when the wave came, joel was climbing around on the rocks, so we were not in view of each other. I screamed bloody murder as the water kept coming up and up and up....
I was literally pinned against a rock, that I was trying desperately to get on top of...I thought that the water was going to pull me under and ruin my camera all at the same time. I envisioned the current of the water pulling my feet out from under me and then, me hitting the rock, and drowning...it could have happened, and thankfully it didn't!!!!! As the current picked up, I knew I had to lift my feet or that exact thing would happen, so I tried my hardest...unfortunately the current did take one of my thong sandals, never to be seen again.....it seriously could have been me....

we watched castaway on tv today- i decided that not only does the ocean scare me, but tides do too.
Actually, what caught you was a surge, not a sneaker wave, or in your case a thong wave. Surges aren't so bad as you can ride them as the surge goes up, but that would have soaked your camera.
Consider getting a protecive, water proof case for your camera for beach trips where you might drown.
Just a thought.
lol! beach trips "where you might drown"
Good thing you didn't die, that would have sucked!
Good thing it was your shoe and phone and not your camera and precious self!! Mommer
