We have an awesome tax preparer this year. He was recommended from a friend and he was quick, efficient, and inexpensive. It was the easiest procedure ever...we literally went to his house, dropped off the necessary documents, answered a few questions, went home - received a call a week later indicating that they were complete, went to his house, and it was done....Lovely, really!! (almost peaceful enough to have birds chirping in the background while dancing through a field of butterflies....EXCEPT NOT)
Every year tax season seems to be a blessing because we typically receive a decent lump of money back, enticing us to go on a vacation or have a small shopping spree...you know the feeling right?
Boy oh boy were we blind-sided when we were told that we owe (in federal and state) approximately $$$1200.....HOLLY SHATNER!
Can you believe that? Wow...
to answer any questions you may think of....
yes, we must have done something wrong when we filed out w-4;
YES, we will be fixing that problem so this doesn't happen again;
YES, I do wish we had a house or a child to use as collateral so that we would receive money.....
and
Yes, we have until April 15th to pay.
**uncontrollable weeping**
Although we aren't getting the blessing we had hoped for, we are blessed because we have savings that will help us overcome this rainy day. It is interesting how blessings work in life....
"...if ye are prepared ye shall not fear."
Oh and on a side note: we are still planning our vacation to Utah and our visit up to Seattle...we will just be limited on our activities....minus geocaching of course....because that is free!

Yeah, that sucks. That happened to us last year, but luckily (or unluckily) this year we had enough medical bills from procedures to get some $$$ back. Paul did taxes for some people in our ward, and they owe quite a bit and not only are they upset but also don't seem to be talking to us at the moment...
I hated owing when we didn't have kids....it does pay to be able to claim children. We will pray for you guys to have a little tax deduction by Dec. 31st of next year.
Bummer & Yay at the same time. That stinks. I have known people who have ended up paying the government in the end and I have always felt so badly for them - you included. The "yay" is because I am relieved to see that we can still hang out with you in Seattle. We just booked the hotel last night. It is the Seattle Sheraton (just off of Pike's Place) and it is so nice! Our room has two double beds (I know you were hoping to snuggle with us, but with you, me, Joel, Devin, Dean and Eli, I fear that one little monkey may fall down and bump his head. And we all know how that story goes.)
On the plus side of your woes, the government will supposedly be sending you a check totaling exactly $1200 ($600 each) to boost the economy sometime in the next couple months. So, hopefully that works out and then you'll have your money back. Until then, you'll be in our prayers - especially Dean's because that kid LOVES saying prayers.
Turbo tax did our taxes this year and we just got $1800 back from Uncle Sam.
i totally feel for you- i mean, as much as i can. Last year we had to pay half that and i think aaron almost lost all 9 lives!
good luck with that...
oh- and of course we are excited you can still come to utah... and it kind of all works out cuz there's this thing where aaron doesn't have a job right now...
